Orissa trounced new entrants Tripura by an innings and 19 runs on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Baxi Jagabandhu Stadium in Talcher today. This was Orissa’s 12th overall win in 96 First-Class matches and first against Tripura. The emphatic win fetched Orissa 11 points, while Tripura settled with 3.
Opting to bat after captain Harmohan Praharaj won the toss, Orissa declared their first innings at 365 for six. Among leading scorers, Sritam Das registered a century, while Karun Dubey, Asjit Jayaprakasham and Devashish Mahanti hit a half-century each. For Das, this was like a century on debut as he did not get to bat in first-class debut last week against Assam.
In reply, Tripura, who were playing only their second Ranji Trophy match, got dismissed for 182 despite a century by Sanjib Paul. For Orissa, captain Praharaj was most successful bowler, taking four wickets, while Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra and Swapan Mitra picked up a brace each.
Forced to follow on after conceding a first-innings lead of 183 runs, the visitors were bowled out for 164 in the second innings. Mitra and Mahanti ran through the Tripura second innings, capturing five and four wickets respectively.
